Nominations Open for the 2010 Purpose Prize: Awards of up to $100,000 to Social Innovators Picture

Know someone over 60 in Louisiana who is putting their passion and experience to work? Nominate someone in an encore career to win $100,000.

The Purpose Prize® provides ten awards of up to $100,000 to social innovators in encore careers. It's for people solving some of our most pressing social issues from health care to the environment, poverty to education.

The Purpose Prize is accepting nominations, including self-nominations, at http://www.encore.org/prize until March 5th.

Winners are leading a national movement of people in encore careers utilizing their skill and experience for the greater good. Past winners include:

  • Joe James who won for including rural African-American communities and individuals in the "Green" economy through his Corporation for Economic Opportunity.
  • oyce and Nelson Johnson were recognized for bringing social and economic justice through a truth and reconciliation process.
