Louisiana Cities Featured in Where to Retire Magazine Picture

In the November/December 2009 issue of Where to Retire magazine, two stories feature Louisiana cities. Profiled in "8 Enticing Cities for New Careers" eight cities and towns are featured with moderating economies or lower-than-average unemployment rates, including Baton Rouge.

According to Where to Retire editor, Mary Lu Abbott, a more active generation who wants to stay involved is "reworking" retirement today. Even in the current economy, there are relocation options that can provide choices for new retirement ventures. These towns and cities feature chambers of commerce and other organizations that aim to assist residents in establishing new businesses or developing new skills. "Baton Rouge, LA, gained hundreds of jobs in goods-producing sectors over the past year, and home sales increased more than 10 percent in one month this summer," stated Abbot.

The Shreveport-Bossier City area is also highlighted in the recent issue, in "5-Star Towns for Military Retirement" story. Home to Barksdale Air Force Base, it is no surprise that this area has been recognized as desirable location for current and retired military personnel.

Where to Retire magazine is the only magazine in America geared to helping people with retirement relocation decisions. The November/December issue was mailed to subscribers nationwide on October 1, 2009. The magazine is also found on various newsstands and at Barnes & Noble and Borders bookstores.
